Extension free Helix
This is another option for making a helix with only native tools. Note I'm using the native facets of a circle to make it work, I've started with a 48seg circle. I used alt(win) to lift the face of the shape up (auto fold), up arrow works too. By starting with a solid you can use Outershell to continue making larger and larger solids. Then Radial arrays and mirroring can make very complex shapes. Note the block with the hole was a simple version for the benefit of the vid, you can make the starting block quite complex, just make sure it is a segment of a circle, not just a square.

Curved stairs in Sketchup without needing extensions.
Просмотров 2,4 тыс.Год назад
This uses the segmented nature of Sketchup geometry to make a set of curved stairs, or a full spiral if you want. You also get to see that I don't always get it right the first time. Note the use of shift select to deselect the arcs so the long edges can be welded which allows them to move together. I've used a 96 segment circle and split it into 3 segments per stair which gives a fairly smooth...
Truebend lefthand thread in Sketchup
Просмотров 632 года назад
This is a method for creating screw threads. The purpose of this video was to show how to take a profile from a poorly formed thread and create a clean solid one.
Solid Tools and True bend

Here's a simple example of using the solid tools in Sketchup to create a complex curve mesh pattern that can then be bent using Thomthom's Truebend.
Follow me within groups
Просмотров 1245 лет назад
Follow me in Groups/Components. Follow me can be used with the 'path' separated from the 'profile'. This is a great way to build a structure of separate solids. The 'path' needs to be raw geometry but the 'profile' can be a group or component. The trick to it is to select the path, then activate the Follow me tool, then right click on the 'Profile' group and choose Edit Group, then click the pr...

Basic Basket Weave
Просмотров 5 тыс.8 лет назад
This is one way to create basket weave. I've kept it to a very generic shape, but the same method can be used to create many shapes and weave configurations. Plugins used are Quad Face Tools, Vertex Tools and SUbD all by Thomthom. Also Tigs Split Donut tool. You could build the same structure using the Follow Me tool but I like this way as it's much quicker, despite the 10 or so seconds of blac...
3d Printing Salt Pot
Просмотров 2618 лет назад
This a short video sample of printing in action. The printer is an Up Mini. The material is black ABS. This is printing at the highest density setting. The software gives you options ranging from this through a variety of cross hatching to a hollow shell. I have posted this to go with this gif. gph.is/29wUoKX
Sphere and Torus

Sphere and Torus. I remember one of the more confusing things for me when I was first learning was how to make a sphere. It is ridiculously simple when you know how but the help files back then, and perhaps now, talked about dragging the follow me tool around the path............ Draw a circle on one axis, draw a second centered on the first but on a different axis. Select the first as the path...
Double helix

This shows the manual method of making a helix. Then gives it a form and mirrors it to create a cage like structure. I've used Eneroth's Upright Extruder which keeps the shape better than basic follow me. And I used Fredo6''s Curvizard to weld the helices. Any weld plugin would work. Both plugins are available from Sketchucation.com

What is the plugin you used?
No plugins used, all standard Sketchup.

What is name software
I subscribed, you're very intellegent.
im already tracery
Totally jealous. I'm watching you make this, and I still don't know how you did it. Ugh.
Don't try to follow the whole thing, work through the steps and you'll get there.
I've been struggling to understand something as well. Thank you.
muy bueno e ilustrativo ...mil gracias..desde Colombia para el mundo
nice tutorial mate!
how do you change the radius with the move tool!? I cant figure it out
That is using the Cardinal points of the circle. These points occur at the four points of the compass when using a circle with segments divisible by 4. Without anything selected, hover the move tool over the circle near one of these points, you know you have it when the circle itself stops being selected, click and move the point to resize.
I don't know if you can share gifs in replies but I'll test it with this example. i.imgur.com/4JdAW5v.gifv
Box Sketch i did it! awesome little shortcut i never knew about. another things thats giving me problems is the curviloft tool. when i select all of them at once it works but for some reason it wont let me select the polygons one by one. even when its a whole entity when i go to select it it will only select a small segment. any idea why?
This is just Great !!!!! Thanks!
You are trully a magician of SketchUp!
I remember those early struggles. Seriously, how difficult should it be to draw a sphere? Knowledge is power and thank you for making us more knowledgeable.
Gracias por compartir tus conocimientos. Regards from Spain.
+Sergio Ibáñez You're welcome.
Good Stuff Box, will you be uploading all your videos to this channel?
+Yoo Toob I hope yes, I hope that Box answer the question :3
